The City of Kalona is a step closer to receiving funding for a trail. The Resource Enhancement and Protection, or REAP, grant application has been submitted and accepted. Kalona’s City Administrator will now go before the REAP board September 9th. If the grant is approved, it would finance a walking trail in Kalona City Park, and also signs on Highway 22 that warn drivers of pedestrians. The City Council is applying for $75,000, the maximum a town the size of Kalona can receive from the population based grant program.
