Weeks after creating a way for residents to raise chickens in town, the City of Kalona has received its first application. The Kalona City Council will consider the request at tonight’s meeting. In order to be considered, a homeowner needs signatures from every property owner within 200 feet, a sketch of where the chicken coop would be located and design plans for the coop. Restrictions include a limit of four hens and a ban on roosters. The council will also look at the bids they received for the sanitary sewer project last week, and also discuss a change to the storm sewer project on A Avenue.
