IMS used a big first half offensive effort to throttle Central Lee 7-2 in Kalona Tuesday night. In the wet conditions it was Central Lee who posted the first goal, taking a 1-0 lead in the 5th minute. IMS answered swiftly as Kobi Russom tied the game just two minutes later. Following Russom, it was Kirby Shetler’s turn to score, not once, but twice in the next five minutes to give IMS a 3-1 lead. Central Lee would cut the deficit in half but IMS squashed the rally with four more first half goals.

Shetler finished his hat trick on an assist from Spencer Shrock, to make it 4-2. The score was 5-2 after Enrique Sanchez connected on a penalty kick. IMS made it 6-2 when Alex Kurtz found the back of the net off of a Russom assist and the lead grew to 7-2 when Sanchez found the score book for the second time on the night. Following the game IMS Head Coach Marcus Miller talked about his teams ability to create and finish chances.

“When you’ve got conditions like this, you never know what is going to happen, so it was unfortunate that we gave up that early goal, but we came back and create good chances, and Kirby [created those] with just hustle and desire, and Spencer Schrock had a couple of assists. So it was experienced players stepping up,” Miller said.

The second half saw IMS come out with a focused defensive gameplan that held the Hawks off the scoreboard while Central Lee played a more conservative game to keep IMS off the board. No one was able to get on the board in the second half. With the win IMS is now 4-3 on the year and will host Wapello Thursday night. Central Lee falls to 0-5.
