A northeastern Iowa company is planning to begin work on a solar farm at a site north of Kalona next week. Farmers Electric Cooperative has partnered with Dubuque’s Eagle Point Solar for the farm that’s expected to be three times larger than the biggest solar operation in Iowa.

Berry Shear, owner of Eagle Point, says they’re bringing in a crew and will use some local labor to install the 2,900 solar panels.

Farmers Electric purchased land seven miles south of Frytown for the solar array last fall.
