A fundraiser for a historic building in Mount Pleasant is being held tomorrow afternoon. The Gospel Music Festival at the First Methodist Church will feature six different gospel groups. Money raised will go to repair the roof of the Second Baptist Church, the oldest building in Mt Pleasant, oldest African American Church in Iowa, and possibly the oldest Methodist church in the state. According to the Mount Pleasant Historic Preservation Commission, which is organizing the fundraiser, the original wood structure was built as a Methodist church in 1843. The festival begins at 2 and is open to the public.
