The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program ends April 1st. Iowa’s annual disconnection moratorium, which runs from November to April, ends and customers could be disconnected for non-payment of utility bills starting April 2nd. The Iowa Utilities Board recommends that customers who cannot pay their energy bills contact their local utility to help avoid potential disconnection. This winter’s extreme cold has resulted in higher heating costs and near-record levels of past due utility bill debt for Iowans, according to the Iowa Utilities Board. LIHEAP assistance applications are still being accepted through April 30th.
