A resolution in support of the Riverside Casino had the full support of the Kalona City Council at their latest meeting. Other towns and the county have passed the resolution that urges the Iowa Racing and Gaming Commission to deny a license for a casino in Cedar Rapids because of its impact on Washington County.

Mayor Ken Herington says everyone on the council was in agreement when it was brought up for discussion. He says they benefit greatly from the casino, receiving around $125,000 in municipal grants from the Casino’s foundation annually. And since the casino opened , they’ve received around $4 million in grants, including roughly a million dollars for their downtown renovation.
