The WACO School Board suspended their policy on early retirements this week. With lower enrollment this past fall, the district needs to get their number of teachers in line with their student population. Superintendent Darrell Smith says the board decided that if a faculty member applies for early retirement by February 1st, they receive 50% of their annual salary in four equal payments over the next two years. This includes all certified and non-certified support staff. Smith says they’ve received two requests for early retirement so far.
