The Wellman City Council has approved a measure to assess the cost of mowing a lawn to the owner’s property taxes. A decision over the summer to enforce their nuisance abatement led them to mow a lawn and remove junk from a few other properties. City Administrator Nick Pacha says they start out by notifying the owner their property is a nuisance. After a grace period, city crews are sent in to take care of the issue. The final step of assessing the cost to the owner’s taxes is only taken when they don’t compensate the city for the work.
