The area’s pheasant population has remained steady the past few years. According to President of the Washington County chapter of Pheasants Forever, Scott Mellinger, the Department of Natural Resources monitors the bird’s population. He says heavy rains in the spring and early summer are hard on hatchlings. He says, despite what we saw this spring, the population is staying level. Pheasant hunting in Iowa opened on Thursday.
