The Washington Demon football team won in a rout Friday night, when they traveled to Keokuk and took care of business.

The Demons won 48-0, and the closest Keokuk got to a touchdown was inside the 40 yard line, but failed to convert on a fourth down conversion.

Washington started the game with a bang, as Alex Coker received the handoff up the middle and he was gone, going 75 yards for the touchdown, and 80 yards on just two plays. Keokuk would punt on their first set of downs, and Washington would punt as well on their second set of downs as they could not get the same yardage, but the Demons figured it out on the third set.

On a third down and eight situation Daryn Seibelius dropped back to pass and threw a ball through the middle to Thomas Bump who made the grab for 16 yard touchdown pass to make the score 14-0 after the PAT. That was Seibelius’s only completion of the night, going 1-5 with 16 yards and a touchdown. Another punt, led to another Demon score as they marched down the field and a five yard run by Knupp made the score 20-0, and on the extra point a bad snap and bad hold allowed a Chief to get into the back field and block the PAT, the first miss or block to Mason Quigley all season.

Washington continued to cause trouble for Keokuk with pressure up front and a blocked pass gave Brad Skubal a chance to get the interception and the Demons started in the Keokuk zone, and made them pay with a 11 yard touchdown run by Daryn Seibelius to make the score 27-0 after the first quarter, but the Demons forced a punt again for Keokuk, but a penalty pinned the Demons back at their own five yard line.

On the first play of the second quarter, Carl Sivels ran off the right tackle and took it to the house on a 95 yard touchdown run to make the score 34-0 and that is where the Demons would stand into halftime.

In the second half Washington scored twice more, an eight yard run by Coker in the third quarter and a four yard run by Seibelius in the fourth quarter to make it 48-0, and that was the game.

Demon head coach Randy Schrader said a shutout always feels good, but there was some difficulty in the secondary.

“Any time you get a shutout it’s good, and they have some offense and we got exposed a little bit in the defensive secondary. so we have some work to do, but you have to be pleased, especially the way we came out in the first quarter and then we kind of got complacent and didn’t do a real good job with that and then we put the hammer down in the second half, and a lot of kids got playing time. It was a good win,” Schrader said.

Washington was led by Coker with 189 yards and two touchdowns, Seibelius had 69 yards and two touchdowns, and one touchdown pass, and Carl Sivels had 112 yards and a touchdown. The Demons held Keokuk to -17 yards rushing, but their quarterback Drake Reiter did go 23-33 for 140 yards through the air and two interceptions.

Washington will have homecoming week this next week while they get prepared for what could be the district championship between the Demons and Williamsburg. That game will be right here on AM and FM KCII.
