An effort to erect a bronze statue of an important Washington resident is now moving forward. The idea to commemorate Ola Babcock Miller, founder of the Iowa Highway Patrol, came from former Washington Mayor Rick Cicalo in 2008. The man tasked with creating the statue, Steve Maxon, is now writing grants to finance a small scale version of the statue, to let people know what the full sized one will look like, and to generate interest.
