Initially stalled by the sequester, a federal grant is now available to Wellman.The city received word in April that they had been approved for a $500,000 Community Development Block Grant, or CDBG, to help pay for a project at their waste water treatment plant.

According to City Administrator, Nick Pacha, the project will involve replacing an out of date piece of equipment, adding a bypass channel, and building a structure to house the bypass channel. The project is expected to cost $750,000. The process for obtaining the CDBG was finalized at council meeting last week.

Pacha adds the engineering work will begin shortly, with the project slated for a spring start.
