While you may have to leave the county to find a large lake, there are plenty of smaller bodies of water for angling. Iowa Department of Natural Resources Fisheries Biologist Chad Dolan, says the Washington County Conservation Board’s Crawford Pond north of Ainsworth and Clemons Creek outside of Washington are local favorites. He adds if you’re up for the drive, the 178 acre Big Hollow Lake in Des Moines County is a great place for catching bluegills and crappies.
