While the rain received last week will help the area’s soil moisture, steps can be taken in your garden to reserve water, to help your plants get through potential dry spells. Washington County Master Gardener Sheila Gerot says mulch, even if it’s a dry year, will not only keep weeds down, but will also retain moisture. She says as an added incentive, when the mulch breaks down it provides nutrients for the soil.
