As things start feeling more like spring, area farmers are waiting for the right conditions before they start planting. Jim Cuddeback farms corn and soybeans outside of Washington. Last year he had started by March 16th. This year, he says it could be mid-April by the time the air and soil temperature are suitable for planting. The soil needs to be 50 degrees for corn to germinate; Cuddeback says as of yesterday it was at 33 degrees.
