Dry conditions during much of 2012 and overgrazing late into the fall have damaged many pastures in southeast Iowa. The Washington County Extension office encourages producers who want to maintain their existing pastures to consider frostseeding. Frostseeding is the act of spreading forage seed on existing pasture late in winter and allowing the freeze-thaw cycles to cover the seed. Forage species such as Red Clover and Alfalfa can be frost seeded. If you would like more information regarding the procedure for frostseeding contact the Washington County Extension Office.
