On Thursday at the Washington High School around 30 members of local law enforcement agencies took part in special weapons and tactics drills. Participating agencies included the Washington Police Department SWAT team, Washington County Sheriff’s Office and members of the Keota Police Department. The scenario revolved around a male suspect who had reportedly fired shots in the school. Washington Police Chief Greg Goodman said that this exercise was part of monthly SWAT training for area law enforcement. Goodman says the school was chosen because the features of the building allow his group to work on specific parts of training including hallways and rooms. It’s an environment that offers a lot of possible scenarios. This was the first time that the group worked in the new High School facility. Goodman says that the group has been serving the area since 2000.
