A local health administrator believes the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare will force the industry to evolve. Washington County Hospital and Clinics’ CEO Dennis Hunger says one of the biggest issues that will need to be addressed is the large influx of new patients created by the bill’s individual mandate. He explains there will be a lot more people in the system but the same amount of resources.
He says most industries are able to adapt to the new mandates, and is confident the health care industry will be able to do the same.
He says that we’ll see more and more midlevel providers, specialists that focus on certain areas of medicine. He gives the example of WCHC’s Chronic Disease Clinic. That wing of the hospital addresses diseases including obesity, diabetes and congestive heart failure to try and reduce the possibility of complications someone can experience down the line.
