The area of drought covering Iowa hasn’t gotten any worse, but relief is not expected anytime soon. According to the weekly U.S. Drought Monitor the whole of Iowa is currently experiencing a drought.

The severity varies by region, with an area of extreme drought stretching from northwestern to central Iowa and a sliver of exceptional drought being reported in Iowa at the borders of Nebraska and South Dakota. Southeastern Iowa is still seeing a severe drought with areas of extreme drought in western Iowa and Keokuk Counties.

According to predictions made by the National Weather Service this drought will either persist or intensify through February of next year.
