Mid-Prairie kept their perfect mark in district play intact Friday night in Wellman with a 37-8 win over Louisa-Muscatine. In a game heard on KCII, The Golden Hawks mixed things up against the L-M defense, finding the endzone on the first of three touchdown runs for Junior Essaa Baylor with four minutes left to go first quarter from 14 yards out. Mid-Prairie extended the lead to two possessions on a 44 yard Austin Errthum field goal at the 4:44 mark of the second quarter. The score came following a Nathan Thomann fumble recovery. Mid-Prairie would take a 16-0 lead into the locker room following Baylor’s second touchdown run, this one from a yard out and a missed extra point.

In the second half L-M continued to use their punishing ground game to move the ball but could not muster any points. The Falcons would drive to a first and goal situation before Mid-Prairie turned them away on four plays with a goal line stand. L-M rushed for 241 yards total on the night. Mid-Prairie took over and marched 90 yards on 13 plays, taking over six minutes of the third quarter before extending the lead to 23-0 on another Baylor touchdown, this one from two yards out. The first play of the fourth quarter saw Mid-Prairie put the game out of reach with a five yard touchdown strike from Reid Miller to Elliot Runcimon pushing the score to 30-0. Miller has looked progressively more comfortable over the last two weeks under center, following the game Head Coach Pete Cavanagh talked about the progression of Miller and the offense.

“We knew Reid was capable of this, and I don’t think the Washington game was indicative of the type of player he is,” Cavanagh said. “You get a running game, and get blocking up front, and get receivers who can make plays, that’s going to make any quarterback look good. He’s just a smart kid who is very coachable, and was about to take what the defense was giving him tonight, and did a nice job.”

L-M got on the board in the final three minutes on a 25 yard touchdown run from quarterback Austin Bohling (Bowling), which Mid-Prairie answered with some late fireworks of their own as speedster Ryan Hoffman raced 85 yards with the ensuing kickoff, making the final 37-8.

Miller posted a great night under center finishing 12 of 14 for 229 yards and a score, his favorite target was Runciman who caught five passes for 120 yards and a score. Baylor finished with 79 yards on 17 carries and his hat trick of touchdowns. With the win Mid-Prairie is now 3-1 overall and 2-0 in district play. The Golden Hawks will next be in action Friday on the road at a surprising Tipton team who is at 4-0 at the midway point of the season.
