An area farmer is set to receive government funding to produce renewable energy and make energy efficiency improvements.  Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack has announced that Andrew McCall from Washington County is receiving a guaranteed loan to construct a 50 kilowatt wind turbine at his agricultural business.

The turbine is expected to generate approximately 103,200 kilowatt hours of electricity annually. This amount is enough to meet the annual requirements of nine homes.

McCall’s project is one of over 100 in 29 states, Guam and Puerto Rico having been selected for funding made available through USDA Rural Development’s Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) that was authorized in the 2008 Farm Bill.
