Field and crop conditions in southeast Iowa continue to get worse. According to the USDA’s Crop and Weather Report, 7% of subsoil has adequate moisture, with only 3% of topsoil having the right amount. Southeast Iowa is in the same range as most of the state, with only south central experiencing worse conditions. Corn continues to hurt during this dry period, 40% is in poor or very poor condition, compared to last weeks 18%. Farmer Jim Cuddeback says some farmers are giving up and cutting down their failed corn and using it as silage.
