Pets can suffer stress when the temperatures get warm and there are easy steps that can be taken to avoid illnesses.  Amber Talbot with Paws and More Animal Shelter says one of the most important things a dog owner can do is to leave the animal at home and not take it along on car rides.  She says if you have an outdoor dog, to provide plenty of water and shade and a place that provides a good breeze.

Some heat exhaustion symptoms in a pet are excessive thirst and heavy panting along with a lack of appetite and a rapid pulse rate.  Talbot says to take your pet to their veterinarian right away if you see these signs.  She recommends putting cold, wet towels on the animal to help them to cool down as well.
