A special seat belt enforcement campaign that started two weeks ago is about to end.  The Washington County Sheriff’s Office along with the Iowa Department of Public Safety have been taking part in the “Click It or Ticket” program.  This program is where law enforcement officials are on the roadways making sure motorists are buckled up and are obeying all traffic laws through Iowa’s special Traffic Enforcement Program (sTEP).

Randy Hunefeld with the Iowa Department of Public Safety says even though more motorists are on the roads during the day, not wearing seat belts at night increases the chances of a fatality.  He says that just by wearing your seat belt, your odds will increase by 50% of surviving a crash as well as reducing the extent of your injuries.  The sTEP program ends tomorrow.
