Two children riding their bicycles found something interesting in Henry County over the weekend.

According to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, around 5:10 Saturday afternoon, the Sheriff’s Office received a call of possible human remains being found along Old Highway 34 near the Henry-Jefferson County line. The children noticed a white object lying in the ditch between the road and railroad tracks.

Upon investigation by the Henry County Sheriff’s Office, Division of Criminal Investigation, Mt. Pleasant Police Department and the Henry County Medical Examiner, the skeletal remains of a human body were found.

Special Agent Jeff Uhlmeyer with the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigations says the State Medical Examiner’s Office will examine the remains and will also be submitted to the DCI’s Criminalistic’s Laboratory for DNA analysis.  He adds the process could take one to two months to positively identify the remains.  KCII will bring you more information on this story as it becomes official.
