Tuesday’s action at Wells Fargo Arena featured two upsets in the final two first round games in class 2A.
After favored MFL-Mar-Mac and Mount Vernon posted wins on Monady, a pair of upsets shook up the tournament Tuesday.
Two seed PCM (22-3) shot 62% from the floor but St. Edmond (19-6) forced 18 turnovers and got 25 points from Nick Clark, who hit 1-of-2 free throws in the finals seconds, to make a desperation three-pointer from the Mustangs a mute point en-route to a 53-52 upset win. Next up for the Gaels…
Six-seed Clarinda (20-4) held Roland-Story (21-4) to four points in the fourth quarter and the Norsemen shot just 30% for the game to fall 50-31. The Eagles connected on over 51% of their shots from the floor, went 12-of-19 from the line while committing just seven personal fouls leading to just two free throws for the Roland-Story. Clarinda senior center Jared Stansbury finished with a game-high 15 points. St. Edmond and Clarinda tip-off in the semifinals Thursday at 3:45.
