The Demon girls’ basketball team is back in action tonight on KCII Radio when they travel to Mount Pleasant in semi final action to take on Keokuk. Washington won both regular season meetings against the Chiefs, winning 60-58 in Washington while taking a 57-52 win in Keokuk.
Keokuk knocked off Taylor Shull and Mount Pleasant in the opening round 55-54 while the Demons handled Fort Madison 48-30.
Demon head coach Phil Long says this team will take a lot of confidence into the game tonight against the Chiefs after their last meeting in Keokuk.

“Sidney (Greiner) didn’t play in that one, neither did Emily (Zehr), and we were able to go to their floor, a very tough environment, and get them down 13 at the half, get it as high as 15 in the second half and sure enough (Keokuk) just kept clawing and clawing. We were able to step up and hit free throws down the stretch to widen the lead and come away with the victory. That should give our kids a lot of mental toughness.”

Keokuk head coach Mike Davis said his team took a lot away from both games this season.

“In the first game we were really ready to play, in the second one I didn’t think the kids were ready to play. Washington did a nice job coming out; they had a good game plan. It was one of the one time I saw our kids not play very good defense as a team.”

The winner tonight will face the winner of Oskaloosa and top-ranked Benton on Tuesday. Oskaloosa topped Fairfield 53-39 in the first round while Benton took care of Clear Creek-Amana 55-38 in the opening game. If the Demons defeat Keokuk tonight, the regional final game will be played in Marengo, if Keokuk advances they’ll play the championship game in Washington.
