Mid-Prairie advanced into the second round of district play with their 1st round win Monday night over the Columbus Wildcats 56-32 in Wellman. The Golden Hawks jumped out to a quick 17-7 at the end of the first and led 36-13 at the break. Mid-Prairie cashed in on 14 first half Columbus turnovers. Columbus would get as close as 17 in the second half with a 6-0 run out of the break before Mid-Prairie put the game away with more full court pressure defense and points off turnovers. The Golden Hawks were led by Nick Stimson’s 12 points, David Aldeman had nine. Columbus was led by eight points from Rafael Cardenas. Mid-Prairie is now 5-18 on the season and will next be in action Thursday at Iowa City Regina in the second round of district play. The Runnin’ Regals had a first round bye.
