Governor Terry Branstad’s Education Reform Package was announced last week. The total estimated cost of this package was $25 million a year. It included guidelines for hiring teacher, and a reading level requirement for third graders as well as many other items. Mark Schneider, Superintendent of Mid-Prairie and Keota Schools, wants to know the details of these reforms before he will support them, but thinks reform is something the education system should always be looking for. One thing Schneider would like to see addressed in the future is the role of extracurricular activities. He says he loves sports and competition, but thinks that sometimes education can take a backseat to these extracurricular activities. You can hear more of Mark Schneider’s thoughts about the reform packages released last week on our IN Touch Program today or online at kciiradio.com.
