Lincoln Elementary School is part of a grant initiative to become part of the Safe Routes to School Project.  Principal Dave Hoffman says they are wanting children to be safe as well as healthy.  He says this program started after they installed a sidewalk around the school building to get the kids out and walking during the school day.

Principal Hoffman says when this idea was presented to him, school staff was excited since this was a way to get kids to walk and bike to school.  The school has applied for a grant from the Federal Government toward this project.

They will find out in February next year if the grant will be awarded and the funds will be available in October.  The Safe Routes to School Project at Lincoln is similar to the same project happening in Kalona.
