Several bids have been accepted for parts of the Mid-Prairie Central Office remodeling project.  Bids for the project were due last Thursday. The initial estimate for the overall cost of the project was $261,000 and Superintendant Mark Schneider now estimates the cost of the project to be between $300,000 and $325,000.

The major discrepancies between the bids were window and glasswork. Discussion included Schneider’s estimate that an entirely new building would cost somewhere between $700,000 and $800,000.

School board members determined that the remodel was a necessary expense for the district and Schneider pointed out that funds are available in the SILO fund to cover the difference between the two estimates.

Basement floor and sump pump installation was awarded to Foundations Unlimited of Kalona for $7353, the electrical contract was awarded to Ace Electric of North Liberty for $34,500, the plumbing contract was awarded to Kuenster Heating and Air of Kalona for $7,895 and the HVAC system work contract was awarded to J&S Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning of Kalona for $45,989.

A special meeting will be held to discuss the bids on the remaining projects at a special meeting next Monday evening at 6:30PM.
