Columbus Junction has filled a vacancy on its city council.  Bernabe Rodriguez was appointed to the council to fill the opening created when C.P. Pierce moved from the city.

Mayor Dan Wilson says the council agreed to appoint someone, but reported recently having difficulty finding a replacement.  Had the city not found a replacement, the council could have held a special election.

However, with the appointment of Rodriguez, the city avoids any expenses as a result of having that election.  Rodriguez will serve until the next regular city election, which is in November.
