The Washington Demon baseball team is heading over to Des Moines today, on the eve of opening state tournament play. The Demon will face ADM, Adel tomorrow evening. Head Coach Nathan Miller says they’ll leave for the capital this afternoon, eat dinner and head over to Principal Park to watch the six o’clock game which will be the time the Demons will play tomorrow. Kee and George-Little Rock will be playing at that time as part of the 1A tournament. Then Miller says it will be a busy day tomorrow. He says they’ll eat breakfast work out at an area high school late in the morning, eat lunch, head over to watch an afternoon game, and be there for team pictures at 4:30. This is the first trip to state since 1998. It’s the schools first time since the baseball tournament has been played at Principal Park home of the Iowa Cubs. Over the weekend 2A games were played as Carroll-Kuemper beat North Fayette 7-0, and Gilbert downed North Polk 2-1. On Saturday it was Davis County shutting out Alta-Aurelia 8-0 and Council Bluffs St. Albert beating Waterloo Columbus 7-3. Class 1A games will be played today.
