The IMS baseball team was two strikes away from qualifying for the state tournament Tuesday night but it was Preston who punched their ticket to Des Moines with a 5-4 last at bat win at Iowa City West. IMS took a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the second inning with single tallies in each of the first two frames on RBI hits by Cameron and Ethan Gingerich. An unearned run crossed the plate for the Trojans in the bottom of the second to cut the lead in half. From there pitchers Colton Bormann and Jackson Brokaw shut down the opposing offenses until the 7th inning when IMS pushed across two insurance runs on RBI hits by Jackson Brokaw and Cameron Gingerich. In the bottom of the inning the Trojans led off with back to back hits and Brokaw was lifted for Cameron Gingerich. After two fly outs, an error, and in an 0-1 count Preston lead off man Jason Fedderson hit a long fly ball down the left field line that just cleared the fence at the 305 sign for a game winning home run. IMS pounded out 11 hits in the contest led by two hits, two runs scored and an RBI for Jackson Brokaw and Cameron Gingerich who drove in two. IMS ends their season at 16-13, Preston will be in action Monday at the state tournament in Des Moines.
