Construction of paved shoulders on Wayland Road south of Washington has been completed. The road is now open to all traffic, both ways.  This project was completed in two phases.  The first phase, completed last fall, was done by L.L. Pelling of North Liberty for the amount of $880,000.  Washington County Engineer David Patterson says he’s excited to see this safety project finally happen after working to find funding for it for more than two years.

He also applauded L.L. Pelling for completing the construction quickly and safely.  Funding for the project includes $500,000 from the federal government’s “High Risk Rural Roads” program, and also $250,000 from a grant from the Washington County Riverboat Foundation.
