The Washington Community School District has been awarded a construction grant. Washington School Superintendent Dr. Mike Jorgensen says this is a $500,000 grant from the Federal Government to be used for the renovation of the current high school. He says this grant requires the District to fund a match of 75% of the project which will have to come from bond issue funds.
This bond issue will be on a ballot in June. Dr. Jorgensen notes this grant will fund 5% of the entire project.
He says the district has 9 months from the grant award date to come up with the 75% matching funds. Dr. Jorgensen adds this grant will only be awarded based on the district’s matching funds and can only be used for the renovation project.
