The state legislature begins what they call “Funnel Week” today.  This week is the first of two weeks during the legislative session for establishing a cut off date of when bills have to come out of committees.  This deadline is created for the purpose of trimming down bills to be considered by the legislature.

During this first week, bills in the House have to be approved by House committees for the bill to remain eligible for further consideration.  The same process happens in the Senate.

All of this needs to happen no later than the end of the day on Friday.  This deadline does not apply to all legislation.

Any Ways and Means bills and Appropriations bills where tax and spending bills are required to be approved are exempt from this requirement.  KCII will receive updates from Representative Jarad Klein and Senator Sandy Greiner later this week on the progress of Funnel Week.
