A new state gun law will be going into affect tomorrow, and Keokuk County Sheriff Jeff Shipley says he isn’t worried about the new gun law. Shipley says they have always issued a lot of gun permits in the county, and the citizens are responsible. He is worried about where people can and can’t carry guns with the new law. Shipley says he is also worried about accidental discharges. As well he knows the public is going to have to go through a cultural change to see guns being carried out in the open. Shipley says for now county buildings will not post a notice that guns are not allowed in the building because they are worried about civil litigation. He says the county will wait it out to see what can and can’t be done.
