The average price for a gallon of gas has been increasing. The current national average is $3.05 per gallon and the average in Iowa is just under $3.00. The average price in Washington is $2.83 per gallon for the ten percent ethanol blend.  The Iowa Office of Energy Independence (OEI) says the average price for the ten percent ethanol blend mid-grade gas is seven cents higher than November and 11.4 percent higher than this time last year. They say the average price for diesel is twenty cents higher than it was in November and 18.3 percent higher this year when compared to last year. The OEI also notes that natural gas used for heating is four cents lower than this time in November and is $1.87 lower than one year ago.
