This year was also a big year for Sigourney-Keota football, with 18 seniors, third year Head Coach Mark Shilb felt this would be a good year heading in. The Cobras quickly broke in to the AP rankings and spent much of the season at number 4. The Cobras smallest margin of victory was a 12 point win over Davis County, but many of their wins were lopsided. They consistently scored around 35 points and scored 56 against Mid-Prairie and 62 against Albia. The Cobras went through the regular season unbeaten and their only loss was to the eventual state champs Iowa City Regina in the quarterfinals. In the season Cobra running back Andrew Utterback rushed for 2,169 and scored 32 touchdowns. Evan Hammes rushed for 907 yards and scored 15 touchdowns and spin back Tanner Mclenahan ran for 684 yards. Defensively, the Cobras had 18 interceptions led by Logan Klein who had 4 and returned one for a touchdown. Andrew Utterback, Logan Klein, Sean Sellers, and Matt Romoser received all-state recognition including Utterback receiving first team honors.
