Winter weather is here and with even more snow on the way there are things you can do to prevent damage to trees and shrubs. Mark Vitosh with Iowa Department of Natural Resources says right now it is tough, he says the only thing you can do is to try and shake snow off of trees and shrubs. He says it is almost impossible to protect your shrubs and trees from ice; he says you should not try to shake ice from shrubs or trees. One thing people can do is proper pruning and care through out the year to strengthen the tree. He also says wrapping should only be done on plants that might get rabbit damage. Vitosh says the jury is still out on whether wrapping actually works to protect trees and shrubs.
