The Washington Demon girls basketball team held off an early fourth quarter comeback from Eddyville-Blakesburg to win their season opener 60-47. Playing on the road the Demons led 35-18 at the half and were up 46-32 going into the fourth but the Rockets started the fourth on an 8-0 run to pull within six at 46-40. Washington was able to regroup and put some distance between them to win by 13 points. Throughout the night the Demon press gave the Rockets problems. In the first half Washington had to deal with some foul trouble and Demon Head Coach Phil Long felt their depth helped especially in the first half. Sydney Greiner finished with 19 points hitting three 3’s and went 5-7 from the free throw line. Regan Enfield had 9 and Lauren Vittetoe who was hampered by fouls much of the night had 7. The Demons start the season 1-0 and will now head to Wayland for a Pride Scrimmage with WACO. This is a new thing allowed by the state where schools are able to play a game with all of the elements of a regular season game but doesn’t count on the win-loss record.

The Demon boys will have their dress rehersal tonight. They will be at the Mid-Prairie Jamboree. The Demons will face Alburnet in the second to last scrimmage of the night. They’ll get another on Friday when they will also play WACO in a Pride Scrimmage.

Mid-Prairie girls opened their season with a win over West Liberty last night. The Golden Hawks won 57-29 in Wellman.
