Construction of the safety shoulders along seven miles Wayland Road, south of Washington, has been suspended due to recent cold weather. The road will be open to all vehicles until the Spring 2011 when the second phase of construction begins.  Washington County Engineer David Patterson says “asphalt has strict temperature requirements for construction” and his office didn’t want to become “stuck in a situation where we have to keep [Wayland Road] closed during the winter.”  North Liberty based company L.L. Pelling Co. is in charge of the $880,000 project that is funded with $500,000 from the Federal “High Risk Rural Roads” program as well as a $250,000 grant from the Riverboat Foundation.  For more information, call the Washington County Engineer’s Office for additional information at 653-7731.
