Washington County had near record breaking rainfall in June, followed by a hot and humid July. Washington Garden Décor and Greenhouses owner Nina Tadlock says southeast Iowa’s summer weather has created a “tropical forest environment”, and weeds are now thriving.  Many plants are also overgrown, and Taldlock says those plants need pruning “haircuts” to keep them healthy, adding that homeowners should also check eaves and downspouts to make sure water is not drowning planting.  Tadlock says hydrangeas usually need a lot of water, and have done especially well this summer.  For help with gardening questions, call Washington Garden Décor and Greenhouses at 653.2471.
