Saturday’s Relay For Life event in Washington’s Central Park raised approximately $125,000 for cancer, $25,000 more than the committee’s goal.  American Cancer Society spokeswoman Kirsten Peck says the money will go to cancer research, some of which is going on just north of Washington at the University of Iowa.  Funds will also provide cancer patients and their families with free housing and transportation to and from treatments.  Peck says a cancer cure requires a lot more work, but the money raised on Saturday brings that cure a “huge step closer”.
