The 12th ranked Demon softball team was on the road taking on Fort Madison a place that has presented problems for Washington in the last five seasons. The Demons had early opportunities loading the bases in the first and getting runners at first and second in the second inning but Washington couldn’t get a run in. The Bloodhounds struck first in the bottom of the second when Amanda Houston reached on an error and on a bunt went through second to third and was able to score on an errant throw to third. In the top of the fifth Lucy Libe led off with a hit Sammy Ellingson and Caitlin Fishback walked to load the bases with no outs. Lauren Vittetoe hit a little come backer to the pitcher that was bobbled allowing a run to score. Then later with two outs and runners at second and third on a wild pitch and an errant toss to the pitcher covering the plate led to two Demon runs. The Demons would win 3-1. Greta Smeins pitching gave up four hits struck out seven and didn’t walk anyone. Washington had nine hits in the game.

In game two Demon Head Coach Angie Shrader says Fort Madison was just able to get more hits than they did in the first. Fort Madison scored five runs in the first off of six hits. They would win 11-1 in five. So Washington is now 7-3 in the conference while the Bloodhounds are 6-2 and still need to play a doubleheader with Keokuk to complete their first trip through the conference. The Demons will play tonight at Lone Tree. This was supposed to be a doubleheader but Lone Tree is going to make up a conference game this afternoon so tonight’s game will just be one varsity game at 7.
