The fifth ranked Fort Madison Bloodhound softball team took it to the Demons pretty good in the first game of last night’s conference doubleheader, but unlike other sports, the Demons immediately had another shot at the Bloodhounds and made good. In the first game, Freshman Maddie Bohr was in the pitching circle and right away Fort Madison hit well scoring two runs in the first. In the second, with one out the Bloodhounds loaded the bases and kept moving runners one at a time with singles scoring three runs. They did the same thing in the third and scored six runs and batted around. Fort Madison won 14-1. The Demons had seven hits and had runners in scoring position in every inning but couldn’t match the Bloodhound offense.

In the second game, it was a different story. It was a low scoring game that you felt one run could be enough for either team to win. Greta Smeins pitching for the Demons, held Fort Madison to four hits and struck out five and only walked one. The Demons, facing the same pitcher senior Morgan Louck, had five hits including a Lauren Vittetoe double, a Molly Doonnolly double, and Maddie Bohr triple. Washington got on the board in the bottom of the fourth Caitlin Fishback drew a walk to lead off, Mackenzie Adrian would come on to run for her and on a steal to third the ball got by the third baseman which allowed Adrian to score. The Demons got their other run in the fifth with a Maddie Bohr one out triple and a Sammy Ellingson base hit to score Bohr as the Demons won 2-0. With the split the Demons are now 2-1 and 1-1 in the conference. Fort Madison is 1-1.
