This year’s shortened legislative session has come to an end, and Iowa lawmakers were able to balance the budget without raising taxes. State Representative Larry Marek says they did the best they could with the depleted revenue that they had. Marek says he is happy they were able to increase funds for education by 147 million dollars. Marek says the legislature saved about 800 thousand dollars by cutting the session short. Republicans have said that while taxes weren’t raised at the state level, the lack of state funding has equated to tax increases at the local level
