This is Fix-a-Leak Week. The Iowa Utilities Board says minor water leaks in homes and irrigation systems account for more than one trillion gallons of water wasted each year in the U.S. Nationwide, about ten percent of homes have leaks that waste 90 gallons or more per day. The WaterSense program is promoting ways to identify and repair dripping faucets, running toilets, and leaky showerheads. Fixture replacement parts pay for themselves quickly and can be installed by do-it-yourselfers or plumbers. Fixing leaks can lower utility bills and save water.
